With its core technology in place, PacBio was ready to go commercial. In 2011, the company released the RS sequencing machine, and has since created multiple new machines containing chips with increased numbers of sequencing wells. PacBio calls the technique single molecule real time (SMRT) sequencing, though it’s colloquially referred to simply as PacBio sequencing.
